| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Birthday Girl |
Kidman portrays a Russian mail-order bride named Nadia, paid for by British banker Ben Chaplin, who gets more than he expected when she arrives. When he throws her a birthday party, two men show up unexpectedly, claiming to be her cousins, and the action starts from there. Throughout, Chaplin's conflicting feelings about his "bride" can be seen, as appreciative love turns into disgust, then pity, and finally blossoms into something meaningful.
