Review Summary and Plot Commentary about After the Sunset
Max (Brosnan) and his wife Lola (Hayek) are successful jewel thieves who even steal a priceless diamond from a government transport run by FBI agent Stan Lloyd (Harrellson). At the behest of Lola the pair "retire" to the Bahamas. Angry and embarrassesd by the theft of the diamond Lloyd dedicates his career to arresting the pair.
A few years later Lloyd tracks them to their getaway spot where he is sure that they will try to steal another priceless diamond on temporary display on a cruise ship on the island. Lola becomes furious with Max and accuses him of moving to the island with the plan of stealing the last diamond; a plan which Max denies.
Lloyd forms a comedic and uneasy bond with Max and tracks his every move; they even go fishing together and end up sharing a hotel room when Max is thrown out by Lola. Max decides to steal the diamond and develops a complex plan to form an alibi: he steals it from the ship while he is diving with the very agent who is supposed to be tracking him. But it turns out that Lloyd is no longer an agent (he was fired and disgraced) and his plan is not to arrest Max and Lola. Instead he is sure that they will steal the diamond and when the do his plan is to steal it from them and sell it for retirement money.
