Review Summary and Plot Commentary about 36 Quai des Orfèvres
36 QUAI DES ORFEVRES is a French movie cowritten and directed by Olivier Marchal in 2004.

Léo Vrinks (Auteuil) and Denis Klein (Depardieu) are at the head of two different teams of the police forces of the city of Paris, France. Now, an audacious gang of robbers has already committed seven bloody armed robberies in Paris during the year and the Chief of Police (Dussollier) tells Vrinks and Klein that the one who'll stop the gang will replace him at the head of the police forces.

Vrinks gets a tip from an informer and manages to locate the members of the gang but Klein, while Vrinks's team is discreetly observing the hiding place of the gangsters, decides to step in and to force Vrink to follow him. Klein's stupid initiative kills one policeman while the robbers manage to escape.

A few days later, Vrinks is compromised by another informer who uses the policeman's presence to murder a criminal. Although Vrinks has witnessed the murder, he doesn't say a word to his hierarchy because his informer has given him very useful informations about the gang of robbers. Perchance, Klein hears about it and denounces his colleague who's sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

A few months later, Klein organizes the arrest of Vrinks's informer who was trying to financially help Vrink's wife, Camille, but, during the operation, Camille is killed in an automobile accident. Seven years later, Vrinks gets out of prison with only one idea in mind: to take revenge on Klein who, in the meantime, has become the new Chief of Police.
