Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The High Command
In post-World War I Ireland, British troops are patrolling when one of the officers is confronted by a local about his relationship with a woman. The soldier left for the war, leaving her behind to marry this man. She now has a small child. In a fit of anger, as small gunfire sounds in the dark woods, the soldier kills his rival and is able to supress evidence that would lead to his guilt. But one of the investigators has the incriminating bullet and a letter from his ex-sweetheart.

Flash forward. The soldier is now General Sir John Sangye (Lionel Atwill). He is in command of a colonial outpost in West Africa. His step-daughter is coming of age and he feels duty-bound to protect her from the unsavory characters on the post. The investigator is also stationed at this post.

When he is murdered and another man (Mason) unfairly charged, the secret the general has been keeping all these years could easily unravel, thus disgracing him and his family.
