Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Eight Iron Men
A small platoon of eight American soldiers led by a Sgt., Joe, is hold-up in a half-bombed building.
During a routine three man patrol, one of the soldiers, Small, gets pinned down in a foxhole by a machine gun in a pill box.
Sgt. Joe asks the Captain for permission to take out the pill box, which is the only way to get to Small and retrieve him, but the Capt. refuses to risk their lives.
While they wait for their replacements one of the men, Collucci, regales them with tales of his womanizing. Another of the men, Coke, is going stir crazy worrying about Small.
Coke finally convinces Joe to disregard the Captain's orders and go after Small. Joe, Coke and another man, Muller, take a morter and fire several rounds, but are unsuccessful in destroying the pill box. Defeated, they return to the building and prepare to pull back.
Amidst the confusion, Collucci sneaks out. With luck, he's able to maneuver colse enough to the pill box to destroy it with a grenade. He retrieves Small and brings him back.
The rest of the men are relieved to see Small alive. However, they all get mad at him when they discover that he was in the foxhole sleeping, safe and comfortable while they were all worried sick.
