Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Stormy Weather
During a time when Hollywood was mostly white, Stormy Weather featured an all-black cast which is a rarity in itself during the early 1940s. This movie is based on small bits of Bill Williamson, an entertaining tap dancer. Williamson tells the story of his life among children as a rising star in showbiz. Williamson is a War World I veteran who goes to a solider's ball where meets beautiful and classy Selina Rogers. Williamson immediately falls in love with the beauty and promises her he will come back for her as he quoted; until he "gets to be somebody". During these times Williamson worked on a flatbottom boat in Mississippi before heading to Memphis, Tennessee at a speakeasy as a line-up alongside pianst Fats Waller. As luck is by his side, he moved on to the stage as a talented dancer then all the way to Hollywood.
He once again meet with Selina Rogers as she now made a music career for herself as a singer. But Rogers is not just ready yet to love Williamson as she is focused on her own career.
Besides the the entertaiment from Williamson and Rogers, appearances made by the great singer Cab Calloway, (host of the servicemen show). More cameos by legendary performers, Katherine Dunham, Fats Waller and the showstoppers Nicholas Brothers.
