| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Flyboys |
During World War I a collection of Americans, including a cowboy, a rich kid, a military brat, and a black boxer, join the Lafayette Escadrille, a squadron of fighter pilots fighting for France. They are taught how to fly by a cynical American veteran. Through the film they become nights of the air, battling the Germans in the air, facing other fighter planes led by one seemingly unbeatable enemy ace.
Many pilots die in air battles, and the survivors learn comeraderie. The "pompous ass" reforms, the cowboy falls in love with a local girl, one flyer gets shell shock, another flyer is accused of spying. A downed flyer gets caught behind enemy lines. In two final furious battles, they attack a zepplin and escort bombers on an important run.
