Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Statement
In June 1944, Pierre Brossard, a member of a French militia working hand in hand with the Nazis, denounced seven Jews to them and witnessed their immediate execution. For 50 years since, Brossard lived like a fugitive, helped by his friends of the "Chevaliers de Marie", a little religious order which housed him in its monasteries and by former comrades of the militia who agreed to help him financially.

Now, his former comrades, who, for some of them, have become influential politicians, decide to get rid of Brossard because the French police is determined to arrest him. Judge Annemarie Livi and army Colonel Roux are in charge of the case and come everyday closer of Brossard. Unaware of the real identity of those who are sending killers behind him, Brossard manages to kill two of them and seeks refuge in some of the abbeys of the "Chevaliers de Marie" but he understands soon that the informations about his locations that he gives by phone to his so-called friends are right away transmitted to the killers. Meanwhile, Judge Livi and Colonel Roux have also understood that, if they want to see Brossard alive, they'd better have to hurry. Produced and directed by Norman Jewison in 2003.
