Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Cast Away
Chuck Noland(Tom Hanks)is Fed Ex executive who always lives by the clock. He is deeply in love with his girlfriend Kelly(Helen Hunt. His life on the clock is brought to a halt when his plane goes down over the Pacific ocean and he is marooned on a desert island by himself.
--Will Dame, Resident Scholar

Federal Express executive Chuck Noland is obsessed with his job and time. But when his plane goes down in the Pacific Ocean and he finds himself stranded on a small island, he has all the time in the world to figure out how to survive, and how to get back to civilization (never mind what he might do there if he makes it back). The middle 4/5 of this movie is a tour-de-force of acting and narrative, largely without dialogue (Hanks is astonishing), but the framing story unfortunately does not quite measure up to that level.
--David Loftus, Resident Scholar
