| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The War Lord |
THE WAR LORD is an accurate account of life during the 11th century. THE WAR LORD really should be called 'THE LOVERS' after the play it is based on. I hope that first time viewers of this film can get past the lavish battles scenes and focus on the real storyline in this movie, the tortured love between two people.

A Norman knight returns home from the Crusades to claim his father's land. He falls in love with a peasant girl and claims her on her wedding night, then keeps her. This leads to nothing good. Based on a play called "The Lovers," there are issues of love, loyalty, duty, and revenge. Maybe the best movie of the middle ages ever made. Certainly the most accurate production.
