Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Sahara
A small, typically polyglot contingent of Allieds troops with a tank alone in the Sahara desert during WWII find the only water available for miles, but are besieged by an army of Germans. A remake of a Russian movie set in Asia, and remade several times later set in the Wild West and elsewhere, this film plays a lot of the cliches of the war movie and the "under siege" movie type: the tough American sergeant, the sympathetic Italian prisoner, the noble colonial native, the dwindling resources, the scheming enemy, etc. Made shortly after Americans started fighting in Africa, it stresses the brutality of war and desert survival. Fine performances all around, this is a war-movie favorite.
