| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Broken Arrow |
Major Vic Deakins (Travolta) and Captain Riley Hale (Slater) are piloting a B3 Stealth bomber on maneuvers over the Utah desert when Deakins crash lands the jet. Enraged over repeatedly being passed over for promotion, Deakins has turned traitor and uses the two nuclear warheads aboard the plane to blackmail the U.S.: either they ransom the bombs or he explodes them in the southwestern United States. But Captain Hale and a sharp park ranger named Terry Carmichael (Mathis) stand in the way of his plans. After some fighting and chasing in the desert, the two colleagues end in a dramatic fistfight aboard a racing train near a remote control that can explode the warheads. Though directed by famed action guy John Woo and written by Graham Yost (who did the two "Speed" screenplays), this 1996 thriller is uneven in momentum and rhythm, has weak heroes and unrealistic action, and so is only a decent entertainment.
